Overview
The Zone Management Tool gives you control over creating, managing and displaying zones across Passport’s portal, parking apps, and enforcement app (OpsMan Mobile). With advanced mapping capabilities, users can define, visualize, and customize zones to reflect real-world curb policies with precision.
Access the Zone Management Tool by navigating to: Home -> Settings -> Zone Management.
Note: This tool allows you to manage zone geometry and a limited number of key settings. At this time, clients cannot update their own rates, advanced settings tied to rates, or any integrations - those changes must be handled by the Passport Team.
Zone Management Summary Page
The summary page provides a comprehensive overview of your zones in two main sections:
1. Zone Details
A searchable list of all zones displaying key fields:
- Zone Number: Unique identifier
- Zone Name: Descriptive label
- Shape Type: Geometry (point, line, or polygon)
- Find Parking Map: Indicates whether the zone is visible in the Passport Parking app (for applicable customers)
2. Interactive Map Overview
- Visual Display: Powered by ESRI, this map shows all zones associated with your operation
- Consistent App Display: In the Passport Parking app, every zone appears as a point (calculated as the center of its line or polygon), regardless of its actual shape

Zone Details Page
Clicking on any zone from the summary page opens its detailed view, which is organized into the following sections:
General Settings
- Zone Name: The designated name for the zone
- Zone Number: Unique number assigned to the zone
- Check Availability: When creating or editing a zone, use this option to confirm that your chosen zone number is valid. A valid zone number:
- Is not already in use within your environment
- Is unique within a 25-mile radius (zone numbers may only be reused by different Passport customers if their zones are more than 25 miles apart)
- Check Availability: When creating or editing a zone, use this option to confirm that your chosen zone number is valid. A valid zone number:
- Zone Type*: Determines how parking and enforcement function in a given area. It affects:
- Payment Behavior (Parking):
- Defines whether a parker enters a License Plate Number (LPN) or a Space Number in the app to pay for their session
- Compliance Checks (Enforcement):
- Determines whether an officer checks for compliance using an LPN or a Space Number when verifying if a vehicle has a valid session
- Payment Behavior (Parking):
- Address: The address associated with the zone
- Automatic Update: Changing the zone geometry or pin location updates the address (using the new centroid)
- Manual Edits: Editing address fields only updates what's shown to end users - it does not update the map location of zone geometry; changes to the address field are one-way and do not affect the actual zone placement
- Time Zone*: Specifies the zone's time zone
Parking Settings (For Passport's Parking Applications)
- Display on Find Parking Map: Controls zone visibility in the parking apps
- Extend Sessions*: Allows users to extend parking sessions
- Session Reminders*: Sends notifications before sessions expire
- Stop Parking Session*: Enables users to end sessions and potentially receive partial refunds (ability to refund is dependent on the associated rate structure)
Enforcement Settings (For OpsMan Mobile)
- Display in Issuance Flow*: Adds the zone to the ticket issuance drop-down menu
- Display in OpsMan Mobile*: Displays the zone in the sidebar for monitoring
- Only Monitor Active Spaces*: Limits monitoring to spaces with active sessions (ideal for space-based environments)
Template Settings Reminder: Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are Template Settings. Their default values are set through Global Defaults and apply only to newly created zones. These defaults can be overridden on an individual basis, and changes do not retroactively update existing zones.

Interactive Map & Polygon Enhancements
This combined section explains both how to edit zone geometry and the benefits of using polygons:
Interactive Map for Zone Editing
- Functionality: Use the map to zoom, draw, or modify the zone’s geometry
- Save Changes: All modifications take effect only after clicking Save Zone
- Display Consistency: Even if a zone is defined as a line or polygon here, it always displays as a point (the centroid) in the Passport Parking app
Enhancing Zone Management with Polygons
- Improved Accuracy: Precisely represent irregular boundaries
- Enhanced Spatial Analysis: Easily identify overlaps, calculate coverage areas, and optimize resource allocation
- Future-Ready Design: Polygons support advanced features and analytics as they become available
- Legacy Compatibility: A centroid is automatically calculated for integration with systems that require single-coordinate data
Note: While polygons offer these advantages, point-based zones are still supported. Any changes you make take effect immediately upon saving.
Zone Spaces Page
This page lists all spaces associated with a zone, showing:
- Space Number: In space-based zones, this is the posted number that users must enter to pay for their parking session
- Internal Space Number
Additional functionality:
- Pin Dropping: Drop pins on the map for precise space locations
Note: Space pins will not appear in the Passport Parking app
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need to regularly review my zones?
- While your zones won't change on their own, it's a good idea to periodically review your configurations to ensure everything remains accurate and aligned with your current operation.
Can I use this tool to manage rates?
- Not yet. The Rate Management tool, which will allow clients to attach rates to zones, is currently in development and will be available soon. Until then, rate changes must go through the Passport team.
How do I edit an existing zone?
- Click on a zone in the summary page to open its details, then adjust fields or modify the map before clicking Save Zone.
How do I change a zone's pin location in the parking app?
- Update the zone's shape in the Zone Management tool. The parking app will display the pin at the center of the shape you define.
Can I hide a zone from the map without deleting it?
- Yes, you can hide a zone from the Find Parking Map while keeping it active for search and enforcement.
How does the interactive map work?
- The map (powered by ESRI) lets you define, visualize, and modify zone shapes as points, lines, or polygons.
Why do all zones appear as points in the Passport Parking app?
- Regardless of actual shape, zones are displayed as a single point (centroid) to ensure consistency across apps.
Can I create or delete a zone?
- Due to impact on rates, integrations, and other backend functions, creating or deleting zones currently requires submitting a ticket to our support team.
