Rate Edit Tools - Deactivate a Zone

Overview

You can find the Rate Edit tool suite in the Passport menu under Parking > Rate Management > Rate Edit Tools. If you do not have access to the page, contact your System Administrator to request access. If you’re not sure who your System Administrator is, you can submit a Passport Support ticket for assistance.

Use the Deactivate a Zone subtool to take a zone offline indefinitely. It removes every rate from the zone and hides it from the Passport app and Passport's own monitoring tools.

Use this for zones you do not plan to reopen on a set schedule. For temporary closures, such as construction, an event, or street cleaning, use a Restriction instead.

If you need to reactivate a zone later, contact Support for assistance.

Finding your zone

Search by zone name or number and select the one you want to deactivate.

Renaming the zone

Before you deactivate, you have the option to rename the zone. This is optional, not required. A deactivated zone that keeps its original name can be harder to identify later. If your organization has a naming convention for deactivated zones, use that instead.

You can add a "zDeactivated" prefix with one click, which also sorts the zone to the bottom of your zone list alphabetically.

Changing the zone's number is not part of this flow. That's available in Zone Management.

What deactivating does

Deactivating is a single action that does two things at once:

  1. Removes every rate from the zone. No new sessions can be created afterward, parkers will see a message that the zone isn't available. Sessions already in progress are not affected and will run to completion normally.

  2. Hides the zone from the Find Parking map in the parking app. If your organization also uses Passport for enforcement, the zone is also hidden from the zone dropdown used when issuing citations and from the monitoring view used by enforcement staff.

Before anything happens, you'll see a preview of exactly what's about to be removed and hidden, including the name of each rate being removed.

This only affects Passport's own screens. If you use a third-party license plate recognition or enforcement system, that system operates independently and may require separate configuration.

Deactivating a zone does not remove or update its physical signage. Drivers may still see the zone number on-site and attempt to pay at a deactivated zone. If you need to order or update physical signage, contact Support.

Confirming

Before the deactivation goes through, you'll see a final confirmation showing exactly what's about to happen and how many rates and display settings are affected. Review this information carefully before confirming, since the change takes effect immediately. If you need to reactivate the zone later, contact Support.

Finishing up

You'll see a confirmation that the zone has been deactivated. If you need to reactivate it later, contact Support for assistance.
